Homeless man allegedly used baseball bat in robbery attempt

A man suspected of threatening a security guard with a baseball bat during a robbery attempt at the Iwilei Kmart earlier this week was arrested in Chinatown late Thursday morning.

Police said the incident occurred shortly after noon Tuesday. The man, who is homeless, was located at North Pauahi and Maunakea streets and arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery about 10 a.m. today.
