The motorcyclist who died in a crash last night on the H-1 Freeway in Pearl City has been identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office as John Tyner, 49, of Waipahu.

The multiple-vehicle accident closed all Waianae-bound lanes of H-1 Freeway for four hours Thursday night as police cleared the freeway and investigated the crash.

Traffic investigators arrested a 19-year-old Ewa Beach man for investigation of negligent homicide after police said he drove a black 1990 Toyota pickup truck across a solid white line while entering the freeway from Moanalua Road at about 9:23 p.m.

The pickup truck hit a white 2010 Nissan sedan, causing it to careen across the Waianae-bound lanes and hit the Zipper lane barrier, police said.

A 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Tyner hit the back of the Nissan. Tyner was thrown from his motorcycle, which hit a blue 1999 Ford driven by a 19-year-old Honolulu man.
Tyner died at the scene. Police said he was wearing a helmet.

A 19-year-old male passenger in the Toyota pickup truck and a 57-year-old Mililani man driving the Nissan sedan went to the Pali Mori Medical Center in fair condition with injuries.

Police say alcohol and speeding may be factors in the crash on the part of the driver of the Toyota pickup truck. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors for the other drivers.
