Kapiolani Boulevard re-opened after two water main breaks repaired

Kapiolani Boulevard is open in both directions again after crews finished re-paving the road between University Avenue and Date Street at about 8:30 a.m.
The 12-inch main in the area broke twice over the weekend, closing Kapiolani Boulevard for a time and cutting off water to two high-rise buildings and a dozen mid- and low-rise buildings in the McCully area.
Water service was restored to customers by 1:45 this morning.
The first break happened at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Kapiolani Boulevard near University Avenue. That break was repaired at 8:30 a.m. yesterday.
However, while workmen were re-paving Kapiolani Boulevard, another break occurred at 4:30 p.m. at 2488 Kapiolani Blvd. at Date Street, closing traffic on Kapiolani in both directions for about an hour.
