The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory posted new video of a surface lava flow from Puu Oo crater.

The lava is flowing from the crater through lava tubes. The swiftly flowing lava is visible through a pit where the cooled lava ceiling has collapsed. Vents spewing fumes mark the tube system. The movie of the overflight ends just short of an area of active pahoehoe breakouts where the lava is flowing on the surface about 330 yards north of the Royal Gardens subdivision.

Kilauea has been erupting since 1983. The latest phase of the eruption began in August as the crater began filling with lava. The lava lake collapsed and lava began flowing from vents on the flank of the crater on Sept. 21. The lava entered the ocean in December. But that flow has since stopped.
