No. 5 Hawaii outlasts No. 22 San Diego in 5

Kanani Danielson put down 18 kills — including the match-ender — to lead No. 5 Hawaii to a 25-14, 22-25, 21-25, 25-16, 15-9 victory over No. 22 San Diego tonight in the second match of the Chevron Volleyball Invitational at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Chanteal Satele added 14 kills and 12 block assists, and Brittany Hewitt had eight kills and was in on 16 blocks for the Rainbow Wahine (1-0). Hewitt set a program record for blocks in the rally score era. 

The Toreros got 13 kills from Amber Tatsch and 12 from Amy DeGroot.

In the earlier match, No. 16 UCLA swept Kansas State 26-24, 25-18, 25-19.

Hawaii had 21.5 blocks for the match, eight in dominating Set 1.
