No tsunami threat from Big Island quake

An earthquake measured at 4.0 and 3.9 magnitude shook the southeastern flank of Mauna Loa this morning but triggered no tsunami threat, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported.
The quake occurred at 9:39 a.m. about seven kilometers — or more than four miles — inland, said Dailin Wang, an oceanographer at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
"This quake was small and on land, so no tsunami," Wang said.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported the quake's magnitude at 4.0. But the U.S. Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory measured the quake at 3.9 magnitude.
The USGS said it struck at a depth of 22.4 miles, about 45 miles southwest of Hilo.
