Pacific Aviation Museum to sign lease for historic control tower

The Pacific Aviation Museum officials plan to sign a lease for the historic control tower and observation deck on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor.

Museum officials said the lease will clear the way for the long-awaited restoration of the site.
The tower is where a radioman issued the first radio broadcast of the Japanese attack at 8:05 a.m. on Dec. 7, 1941. Exploding bombs shattered lower-level windows during the assault.

The museum is housed in a Ford Island hangar nearby and has made restoring the tower a priority.

Museum and Navy officials will participate in a lease signing ceremony Wednesday.
