The University of Hawaii at Manoa has issued a security alert after the assault of a female student Sunday at the Hale Noelani campus apartments.

She told campus and Honolulu police that the assailant is a man in his early 20's, about 5 feet, 8 inches, and 180 pounds, with a muscular build, black hair in a crew cut, brown complexion with black eyes. He was wearing a white T-shirt, shorts and slippers.

The e-mail alert issued to students, staff and faculty members last night said UH officials do not believe the suspect is a student.
