All things considered, the University of Hawaii's last Western Athletic Conference football schedule will be a favorable one, according to a release today from the WAC office in Englewood, Colo.
The Rainbow Warriors will avoid what they had feared most this season, the possibility of not only back-to-back conference road games in consecutive weeks but also a debilitating stretch of four road games in five weeks.
UH, which had already scheduled itself for back-to-back non-conference games at Washington (Sept. 10) and Nevada-Las Vegas (Sept. 17) was very concerned it might also be forced to play its first two conference dates in consecutive weeks.
But the Warriors drew an Oct. 8 open date between appearances at Louisiana Tech (Oct.1) and San Jose State (Oct. 15) avoiding not only back-to-back road appearances but what could have been four games on the Mainland in five weeks.
Nevada, which shared the 2010 WAC title with UH and Boise State, wasn't as lucky. The Wolf Pack will play four consecutive road games to open the season, the result of having a at Sept. 17th WAC game at San Jose State tossed in amid previously-scheduled non-conference games at Oregon (Sept. 10), Texas Tech (Sept. 24) and Boise State (Oct. 1). Nevada's open date is the first week of the season, Sept. 3.
UH will have four conference road games and three home games, including BYU on Dec. 3, because Boise State, which was to have been a UH home game, leaves for the Mountain West this season. UH joins the MWC in football for the 2012 season.
Plans for ticket sales have not yet been announced.
