Victim in Kaneohe murder-suicide identified

Flowers are in front of the Kaneohe home where Sydney Kline lived. Police said Kline's boyfriend stabbed Kline to death Saturday on Kapunahala Road. He then committed suicide by jumping off the H-3 Freeway.

The landlord of the woman stabbed to death outside her Kaneohe home on Saturday identified the victim as 33-year-old Sydney Kline.

Corazon Villasista had previously identified the victim just by her first name "Sydney." Honolulu police have not yet released the identities of the victim or suspect.

According to police, Kline and the 27-year-old suspect were involved in a romantic relationship and were sharing Kline's second-story rental unit on Kapunahala Road along with Kline's daughter from a previous relationship.

Kline and the suspect reportedly argued on Friday night, resulting in Kline leaving the residence. When she and her mother returned to the home the next day to pick up Kline's belongings, they found some of the belongings damaged and called police to file a criminal property damage complaint.

According to police, the suspect assaulted Kline's mother then chased Kline to the street, where he repeatedly stabbed her. The suspect then drove to the H-3 Freeway in Kline's SUV, pulled over to the side and jumped to his death.

Kline was taken by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Villasista reiterated yesterday that she wasn't aware of any problems between Kline and her boyfriend.

"Sometimes I heard them talking loudly, but afterward they would be laughing, so I don't know that they were fighting," she said. "I don't really know anything for sure."

Kline was a 1995 graduate of Castle High School. A Department of Education directory lists her as a business manager for the Kailua-Kalaheo complex area of the department's Windward Oahu District.

Noe Sadowski, a classmate of Kline's at King Intermediate School, said she saw Kline, her boyfriend and her daughter when the three of them stopped by Kaiser Permanente office where she works.

"They always looked happy together," Sadowski said. "He seemed like he was good with them. They were always joking and giggling. I knew they weren't married, but they looked like a good family."

Sadowski remembered Kline as "very friendly, very energetic, very personable."

"She loved talking to people," Sadowski said. "She always had a smile on her face."
