Water conservation ends for Leeward coast residents

Leeward Oahu residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha can return to normal water use after reservoirs were re-filled following the repair of a 24-inch water main last night.

The line, which runs from Honokai Hale to Makaha, supplies 60 percent of the water to the Leeward Coast. The leak near 92-301 Farrington Highway was detected after midnight Wednesday and repaired at 6:40 p.m. last night.

The main was shut off until the repairs were completed.

In the meantime, the Board of Water Supply asked residents to use water sparingly and for priority needs such as cooking, drinking and personal hygiene until area reservoirs could be re-charged.

The water main was off the highway so traffic wasn’t affected. Eleven homes were left without water.
