Honolulu Board of Water Supply repair crews restored water service Sunday night to several buildings along Ala Moana Boulevard after a leak to a 12-inch water main left the area without water for much of the day.

Contractors working on a separate Ala Moana beautification project spotted the leak around 11 a.m. Sunday.

The repair effort left five condominiums as well as the Hawaii Prince Hotel and the Ilikai Marina without water, although water supply crews did install spigots on nearby water hydrants.

The day- and night-long repair did not impact traffic since the two Ewa-bound lanes to which it was contained were already closed due to the beautification project.

Water service resumed around 9 p.m. Road repairs are expected to continue overnight and should be completed by tomorrow morning barring any unforseen complications.
