Sunshine Law training moves online

By Associated Press

POSTED:

The city is offering new board and commission members the option to complete mandatory Sunshine Law training online.

Honolulu ordinance requires all public board and commission members to complete a workshop on the state's open-meetings statute. Until now the training had to be conducted in person — and Honolulu has more than 600 seats that require training.

A new city law now allows board and commission members to use an online video produced by the state Office of Information Practices.

How will the city track who has and has not received training. Will we have to buy a new program to do this? If it's online, obvious there is no classroom participation.
