Police arrested a 19-year-old man who is suspected of stabbing his 70-year-old grandmother early Friday morning in her Waialae Avenue apartment.

Charles "Kealii" Amoy was caught at about 6 p.m. Friday in the University area after police issued an alert about the stabbing, and arrested for investigation of second-degree attempted murder.

The woman remained in critical condition at the Queen's Medical Center after she was allegedly stabbed multiple times. Neighbors identified her as Aileen H. Amoy.

The stabbing happened at about 1 a.m. Friday at 3002 Waialae Ave., a three-story apartment building behind Sakura Restaurant & Pupu Bar.

Police said neighbors heard a woman screaming for help. Neighbors gained entry to her apartment and assisted her until police and ambulance arrived.

The victim reported her grandson was responsible for her injuries, police said. Charles Amoy was last seen jumping into a nearby drainage canal.

Police opened an attempted-murder investigation.

Neighbor Peter Pulido said he was shocked to hear about the stabbing and hopes Aileen Amoy's condition improves.

"We want her to pull through," said Pulido, whom he calls "Auntie Aileen." She has lived in the three-story building for more than 20 years and has always been there to help her grandson, he said.

"His grandmother was in his corner 100 percent."

Pulido had dinner with Aileen Amoy and her grandson Thursday night in the backyard of the building. Amoy has been concerned about her grandson's well-being and was trying to keep him on track, he said.

Pulido added that Charles Amoy has been going through a lot of problems that include legal troubles, but wouldn't specify. "A friend of mine has been trying to counsel him," he said.

I can deal with wrong age, but when some go male, and the others go female, I gotta wait til I see a picture. I go through the sites several times cuz I know sooner or later going get "updates."
