No homes threatened by lava flow

Lava did not threaten any homes yesterday in the Kalapana Gardens subdivision.

"The homes seem to be safe," said Hawaii County Civil Defense Administrator Quince Mento.

The active area centered yesterday on the two ocean entries where lava continued to ooze into the sea southwest of Kalapana Gardens, the U.S. Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported.
