Schools ‘still have much work to do’

    The state Department of Education announced at a news conference Friday that it will buy two science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) carts for Hawaii island with a $50,000 donation from AT&T. The carts allow students to conduct experiments that would be too hazardous or costly in a traditional laboratory setting. Wai­anae Intermediate students Lesleen Uruman, left, Jerusalem Tootoo, Samantha Hammond, Kamalani Kalahiki and Nathaniel Naeole made mocha ice cream at the state Capitol as part of an experiment on the freezing point of liquids.
