on Maui and fl own to the Florida city by the group for presentations at the
hospital, the nightclub and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

The Chinese missile frigate Hengshui, center, and Chinese missile destroyer Xi’an, right, were docked next to the Australian amphibious assault ship Canberra on Wednesday in Pearl Harbor for upcoming Rim of the Pacifi c exercises. Five Chinese navy ships arrived in Pearl Harbor on Wednesday, including the supply ship Gaoyouhu, submarine rescue vessel Changdao and hospital ship Peace Ark. The Chinese ships met up in the Pacifi c with the U.S. Navy destroyers Stockdale and William P. Lawrence for ship-formation drills and the trip to Hawaii. Xinhua, the offi cial news agency of China, said 1,200 offi cers and soldiers are part of the RIMPAC contingent, with the Chinese ships expected to take part in drills including gunfi re, damage control and rescue, anti-piracy, search and rescue, and submarine rescue. Vessels and personnel from 26 nations are gathering for the world’s largest international maritime exercise, which gets underway today and wraps up Aug. 4.

An SUV struck a tree and overturned near the Maui County police headquarters Thursday afternoon after the driver experienced medical problems, police said. The 51-year-old Kahana man, who required CPR by medics and fire personnel, was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment, police said. The vehicle was traveling east on Kaahumanu Avenue when it struck the tree and then rolled over near Kanaloa Avenue at 1:57 p.m., according to police. Witnesses helped to right the vehicle before medical responders arrived.

Borges' daugh- ter, Steffanie Borges-Juergenson, left, and niece Diane McGowan Borges hugged each other outside the church after the service. McGowan Borges said she and Borges-Juergenson were like sisters growing up.

Following a 16-month restoration, the new Tonga Village at the Polynesian Cul tural Center opened Saturday, highlighted by the presence of the Tongan royal family. Polynesian Cultural Center President and CEO Alfred Grace, left, and King Tupou VI arrived at the Tonga Village ceremony on a canoe procession. The king, joined by by his wife, Queen Nanasipauu, made a special trip to participate in the blessing ceremony as a tribute to the people of Tonga and the spirit of the Tongan culture being perpetuated at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
