UH ranks low in athletic department subsidies

The university is 10th of 12 Mountain West teams and last of 10 teams in the Big West

~~<p>Outgoing Manoa Chancellor Virginia S. Hinshaw said she believes "that increased financial support for University of Hawaii Manoa athletics is both needed and justified" in the wake of a study showing its teams are being subsidized at a lower rate than those they will compete against in the Mountain West and Big West conferences.</p>
<p>Between 2006 and 2011, 32.6 percent of the UH athletic department's more than $30 million in annual expenses were subsidized by the state, school or students, according to USA Today figures. </p>
