Rough waters greet paddlers for the annual Macfarlane Regatta at Waikiki Beach

~~<p>While Wednesday's regatta technically didn't count, the level of fierce competition on the water remained as high as the day's unusual tide.</p>
<p>Paddlers braved rough ocean conditions and relentless surf, but Lanikai Canoe Club rode the swells to its fourth consecutive Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association victory of the season at the 70th annual Walter J. Macfarlane Regatta at Waikiki Beach. OHCRA's traditional July 4 event was held in the waters fronting the iconic Royal Hawaiian and Outrigger hotels as thousands of spectators looked on from the beach and hotel balconies.</p>
