~~<p>On July 19, George Ari&shy;yo&shy;shi, 86, will be honored by the East-West Center for his dedication to strengthening the bonds between Asia and the United States.</p>
<p>Ariyoshi was governor from 1974 to 1986. His 32 years of public service is impressive, reflecting his dedication to his mentor, Gov. John Burns, to the Demo&shy;cratic Party and to the state, but that's not the whole story.</p>
