Japanese chain starts competing with ABC Stores

Two Lawson Stations open up in Waikiki, and the firm plans to have many more

~~<p>A battle between convenience stores in Waikiki soon may be brewing as the second-largest chain in Japan prepares to go head to head with Hawaii's venerable ABC Stores.</p>
<p>Lawson USA Hawaii Inc., a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Lawson Inc., is looking to open 20 to 30 stores on Oahu, largely concentrated in the Waikiki area, in the next two to three years, according to Makoto Oe, Lawson's senior manager of international business.</p>
