~~<p>U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono claimed victory over former Gov. Linda Lingle Tuesday night, becoming the first Asian-American woman elected to the U.S. Senate.</p>
<p>Hirono dominated the Republican Lingle 62 percent to 37 percent to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka, her fellow Demo&shy;crat.</p>
