Isle diabetes up 117% in 15 years

The disease's rate has climbed across the nation in past decades, and 1 in 14 Hawaii residents report suffering from it

~~<p>Hawaii's diabetes rate soared 117.1 percent from 1995 to 2010, mirroring a disturbing nationwide trend, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study shows.</p>
<p>The federal report, issued Thursday, said Hawaii's increase over the 15 years was the fourth highest in the nation behind Okla&shy;homa, up 226.7 percent; Washington state, 135.5 percent; and Montana, 117.2 percent. Kentucky, Georgia and Ala&shy;bama also saw dramatic increases since 1995. The nationwide increase over the period was 82 percent, the report said.</p>
