Maui County pays $40K to settle Taser lawsuit
The case, in effect, sets national standards for use of the weapon

~~<p>Maui County has disclosed it paid $40,000 last year to settle a federal lawsuit filed by a Maui woman who was shot by a Taser gun by one of four police officers in 2006 at her Wai­luku home.</p>
<p>The attorneys agreed to keep the settlement confidential, but Maui County released the figure after the Star-Advertiser sought the amount under the state open-records law.</p>
