The sign affixed near the front door, a reminder to take his cellphone with him on the way out, attests to his traveling schedule. So does his “Two Million Mile” frequent-flier membership card. On the other hand, his new granddaughter and his two grown children remain a powerful anchor to keep his home base here. </p>
