Senate panel advances bill that would allow hospital takeover

~~<p>A state Senate committee passed a bill Wednesday that would allow for the privatization of eight public hospitals operated by Hawaii Health Systems Corp.</p>
<p>Two-thirds of HHSC's 12 struggling &quot;safety-net&quot; facilities on Maui, Lanai and Hawaii island have been exploring a public-private partnership with Phoenix-based Banner Health, a nonprofit that generates $5 billion in annual revenue, to improve the quality of health care services on the neighbor islands.</p>
