~~<p>State lawmakers have opted for a study after considering for the first time legislation that would have required employers to grant workers time off to be involved in their children's school-related functions.</p>
<p>The measure would have entitled parents, grandparents and legal guardians of children in kindergarten through 12th grade to a certain number of &quot;family school leave&quot; hours per month and prevented employers from reprimanding workers for using their vacation time, sick leave, personal days or other accrued compensatory time for that purpose.</p>
