One foot at a time: Taking measures of rising seas

By Vicki Viotti

POSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Dec 08, 2013

The School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology at the University of Hawaii has an extensive section of its website devoted to the issue of rising sea levels (http://www.soest.hawaii.edu/coasts/sealevel/). Part of the discussion on that page contemplates how Oahu might function based on scenarios of sea-level rise sketched out in a paper presented to the National Academy of Sciences in 2009. It projects the experience of 1-, 2- and 3-foot rises in sea level, forecast to arrive, respectively, sometime in 2040-2050, 2050-2070 and 2070-2090.
