Maui hospitals in 'preliminary' talks with HPH

Legislation is needed before purchase of or partnership with the state-funded facilities

<p>Wesley Lo, chief executive officer of the Maui region of Hawaii Health Systems Corp., told staff Friday the region &mdash; which includes Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lanai Community Hospital &mdash; is entering into &quot;preliminary discussions&quot; with HPH, which operates Kapiolani Medical Center for Women &amp; Children, Pali Momi Medical Center, Straub Clinic &amp; Hospital and Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Kauai.</p>
