Ho moves on in ASP contest

Hawaii's Coco Ho defeated Rosanne Hodge 14.00 to 11.77 in the Movistar Peru Classic surf contest third round yesterday.

Ho advanced to the quarterfinals of the Association of Surfing Professionals Women's World Tour event.

Another Hawaii surfer, Melanie Bartels, lost her third-round heat to Claire Bevilacqua 13.60 to 11.67 of Australia and was eliminated.

Kaufman raises the bar

High jumper Amber Kaufman is the only Hawaii athlete competing in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week in Eugene, Ore. Kaufman is the top-rated jumper in the country, with a season-best 6-3 1/4 . The high jump is scheduled for tomorrow.
