POSTED:

Jane Croson, who has orally committed to Hawaii for the 2011 season, is having a sizzling summer.

After an All-America junior season at Los Alamitos (Calif.) High School, her Sports Shack team won the Junior Olympics 18 Open division July 2. Croson was named to the all-tournament team.

Next, Croson led the U.S. Junior National Team to a series of sweeps on its way to winning gold at the NORCECA Women's Junior (U-20) Continental Championship in Tijuana, Mexico. Croson was MVP and Best Spiker at the tournament, with 49 kills and a tournament-leading .516 kill percentage.

Friday, she and longtime beach partner Summer Ross advanced from qualifying at the AVP's Hermosa Beach Open. They lost to second-seeded Nicole Branagh and Misty May-Treanor in the first round of the main draw.

Now Croson and Ross are headed for the FIVB Beach Volleyball Youth (U-19) World Championships, beginning today in Porto, Portugal. They were fifth last year and seventh in 2008, when they made history as the youngest pair to compete in the event.

Wedding party Wahine

Saturday's wedding of Cobey Shoji, Dave Shoji's daughter, brought together a few former Rainbow Wahine.

Jennifer Carey (1999-2002), the director of volleyball operations for Cal, was a bridesmaid. Kari Gregory (2004-07) also was there. She was a high school classmate of the groom -- former Stanford football graduate assistant Coleman Hutzler, now on Urban Meyer's staff at Florida.

Diana (McInerny) McKibben (1978-79) and Lisa Strand-Maa (1981-84), who played on three of Dave Shoji's national championship teams, were guests. So was Aven Lee (1996-2000), who went to Punahou with Cobey Shoji and is now in her second season as an assistant coach at Pacific.

Gregory played professionally in Switzerland last season. Former Rainbow Tara Hittle is headed there next month to start her professional career.
