Maui's Mahe loses by TKO in first round

By Star-Advertiser staff

POSTED:

Shane del Rosario remained undefeated in his mixed martial arts career with a TKO victory over Maui's Lolohea Mahe in the main event of last night's StrikeForce Challenger Series event in Everett, Wash.

The referee stopped the fight 3 minutes, 48 seconds into the first round after del Rosario landed a vicious knee that badly hurt Mahe. Del Rosario followed up with a knee to the body and Mahe immediately fell to the canvas covering up his head.

Del Rosario has won eight of his 10 fights by knockout and has only been taken into the second round once.

Mahe dropped to 4-2-1 with his second straight loss.

The two heavyweights came out firing from the start, trading heavy punches. Del Rosario twice threw high kicks that just missed Mahe's head.

Mahe had his moments, landing a left hook and a straight right hand that momentarily backed del Rosario up against the cage.

The fight was stopped midway through the round after a knee hit Mahe in the groin area. Not long after it resumed, del Rosario landed the knees that put an end to the fight.

The featured bout was one of five fights broadcast last night on Showtime.

In the co-main event, Sarah Kaufman retained StrikeForce's 135-pound women's world title, knocking out Roxanne Modafferi after slamming her to the canvas in the third round.
