Johnson repeats in ocean swim

Kacy Johnson of Hawaii Kai won the 1.6-mile Chun's to Waimea Swim for the second straight year yesterday.

Johnson, an 'Iolani junior, finished the ocean swim in 30 minutes, 34 seconds -- 3 seconds ahead of UH senior Steve Allnutt. Eric Nilsson of Honolulu was third with a time of 31:33.

Kathryn Taylor of Kaneohe was the first woman to cross the line, finishing in 36:58. Taylor beat Nicole Hagi of Ewa Beach by 3 seconds and Gail Grabowsky of Honolulu by 28 seconds.

It was the third stop of four for the Surf and Sea Swim Series, led by Allnutt and Hagi. The final event of the season will be Aug. 7, when the athletes will cover the 2.1 miles from Ehukai to Waimea.


Komori, Palmer at QB Club

Punahou tennis coach Rusty Komori and Hawaii Baptist standout Sarah Palmer will be the featured speakers at tomorrow's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

Komori has led the Buffanblu to 17 of their 20 straight state titles. Palmer led the Eagles to their third straight state volleyball title and will take her skills to Texas in the fall.

The program begins at noon at the Maple Garden Restaurant with lunch served at 11:30.


Wahine volleyball tickets on sale

Season tickets for the Hawaii women's volleyball team go on sale tomorrow.

Fans can purchase tickets at hawaiiathletics.com, at the Stan Sheriff Center box office or by calling 944-2697.

The box office is open from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
