Wong named MVP

Hawaii second baseman Kolten Wong was named the most valuable player of the Cape Cod League on Saturday night.

Wong, who had his summer cut short due to a thumb injury, posted a .341 batting average with six doubles, three homers and 11 RBIs for the Orleans Firebirds.

 

HPU adds 3 for 2010-11

Hawaii Pacific added three players to its 2010-11 men's basketball recruiting class yesterday.

LaBrent Chappell, Jelany White and Nick Frazier all signed national letters of intent.

Chappell, a 5-foot-10 point guard, averaged 12 points, six assists and four rebounds per game for Fresno City College last season.

White, a 6-foot point guard, averaged 4.5 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds for Chadron State College (Neb.) a year ago.

Frazier, a 6-foot guard, averaged 11 points and 3 assists per game for South Mountain Community College (Ariz.) last season.

 

Ewa advances at Bronco Series

Dorrien Hermosura struck out 12 batters as Ewa beat Salinas (Calif.) 9-1 yesterday in Monterrey, Calif.

Chase Wago, Gaston Palipti and Justin Areola each had two hits for Ewa, which improved to 3-0 and is assured of advancing out of pool play. Ewa plays Puerto Rico today.
