Fung earns UW honor

Washington senior goalkeeper Stephen Fung ('Iolani '06) was named the GoHuskies.com student-athlete of the week on Monday.

Fung had a career-high eight saves in a 4-1 upset win over then-No. 15 Portland on Saturday and is 2-0-1 in his first three starts with 13 saves and two goals allowed.

Fung started 17 matches as a redshirt freshman and 11 as a sophomore, but did not play as a junior.

Masoli matches Manning

Mississippi senior Jeremiah Masoli (Saint Louis '06) had 190 yards passing and 104 yards rushing in a 28-14 loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday to become the first Rebels quarterback to have at least 100 yards passing and rushing in the same game since Archie Manning in 1969.

Masoli is the first Ole Miss QB to rush for 100 yards in a game since Tom Luke in the 1991 Egg Bowl.

The troubled quarterback, who transferred to the Rebels from Oregon after multiple run-ins with the law, has started the last two games.

He's completed 62 percent of his passes (40-for-65) for 580 yards, but has thrown just one touchdown pass and four interceptions.

FOOTBALL

» Colorado senior B.J. Beatty (Kahuku '06) had four solo tackles, including a sack, and Michael Sipili (Damien '06) added four tackles in a 31-13 victory over Hawaii on Saturday.

» Texas Tech junior defensive end Scott Smith (Saint Louis '07) finished with six tackles, including three for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and an interception in a 24-14 loss to No. 6 Texas. Linebacker Sam Fehoko (Farrington '07) added three tackles and a fumble recovery.

» Washington freshman Hauoli Jamora (Kahuku '10) had eight solo tackles and a forced fumble in a 56-21 loss to No. 6 Nebraska.

» Idaho junior linebacker Robert Siavii (Leilehua '08) had six tackles and a sack and sophomore Conrad Scheidt (Kamehameha '09) had four tackles and two sacks in a 30-7 win over UNLV on Saturday. Jojo Dickson (Baldwin '07) added four tackles and Kama Bailey (Damien '08) rushed for 33 yards and had three catches for another 33 yards.

» Weber State quarterback Cameron Higgins (Saint Louis '06) finished 21-for-42 for 253 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-17 loss to Sacramento State. Adam Sagapolutele-White (Saint Louis '09) had three tackles and Kela Marciel ('Iolani '09) and Veteson Sanui (Kahuku '10) each had a tackle for loss.

» Central Washington senior Jared Silva-Purcell (Saint Louis '06) had six tackles, a forced fumble and a half sack in a 43-21 win over Dixie State.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

» Pittsburgh senior Melanie Feldman (Punahou '07) had 26 digs and three aces in four matches, helping the Panthers finish 3-1 in the Pittsburgh Blue and Gold Tournament last weekend.

» Colgate senior Logan Keala (Kamehameha '07) finished with 11 digs and eight kills in a five-set victory over Cornell on Saturday. Big Red junior Risa Ka'awa ('Iolani '08) led Cornell with 19 digs.

» Linfield College (Ore.) junior Samantha Lau (St. Francis '08) finished with 64 digs in five-set victories over Pacific (Ore.) and Willamette (Ore.) last weekend. Lau contributed three aces against the Bearcats to help the Wildcats start their Northwest Conference season at 2-0.

» Manhattanville (N.Y.) junior Makana Gomes ('Iolani '08) had eight kills, 19 assists, eight digs and three aces in a three-set victory over John Jay on Saturday. Gomes, one of six players on the entire Valiants roster, earned the program's first-ever Freedom Conference player of the week award on Sept. 7.

» C.W. Post (N.Y.) freshman Makamae Namahoe (Hilo '10) was named co-MVP of the Northeast-10/East Coast Conference Challenge on Saturday. Namahoe finished with 37 kills, six aces and 20 digs and assisted on eight blocks in three tournament games, helping the Pioneers finish unblemished at 3-0.

MEN'S GOLF

» Pacific (Ore.) senior Max Bonk (Hawaii Prep '07) shot a 3-under-par 69 in the final round to capture the Pacific Invitational by 11 shots on Monday. Bonk finished the two-day tournament at 4 under. Freshmen Chasen Bahouth (Maui '10) and Josh Mau (Maryknoll '10) finished in a tie for 14th place at 14 over for the Boxers.

MEN'S SOCCER

» George Fox (Ore.) freshman Torrey Santiago (Waimea '10) has scored the Bruins' only goal of the season through five games. His goal came in a 4-1 loss to Trinity Lutheran on Sept. 4.

WOMEN'S GOLF

» Pacific (Ore.) senior Valerie Kitamori (Waiakea '07) finished third at the Pacific Invitational on Sunday after shooting a final round 12-over-par 84. Pacific senior Tami Park (Waiakea '07) finished in a tie for 15th place.

» Oregon senior Sean Maekawa (Honokaa '07) shot a final-round 2-over-par 74 to finish tied for 48th place in the Husky Invitational yesterday. Maekawa struggled to an opening round 79, but bounced back with rounds of 73 and 74 to finish the tournament at 10-over 226.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

» Idaho State sophomore Bryce Jenkins (Leilehua '09) finished in 29th place with a time of 27 minutes, 8 seconds at the Montana State Invitational on Saturday.
