Moniz OK with being the overlooked QB

Hawaii's Bryant Moniz is relishing his role as the "other quarterback" in tonight's football game against 19th-ranked Nevada at Aloha Stadium.

"It's fine with me," said Moniz, acknowledging that Nevada's Colin Kaepernick is the marquee performer.

Kaepernick is projected as a high-round draft pick in April's NFL Draft.

Moniz said little has changed since earning a scholarship two months ago. Being the national leader in total offense carries little weight in his Wahiawa home.

"It's still the same old, same old," he said. "I still take care of my daughter, and I still have homework to do."

He said "Ms. Christmas" still braids his long hair for home games, and aunties offer remedies for his injuries. His Auntie U'i used a laser machine to help ease the pain in the turf toe he suffered two weeks ago.

"You put it on certain points, and it's supposed to work," said Moniz, who is fully healed. "I've done so many treatments, I don't know which one helped the most."

In last week's upset of Fresno State, Moniz earned another high grade. Offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich said Moniz had only two incorrect reads in 53 pass plays. His best was an incompletion after he escaped the grasp of two defenders in the end zone to avoid a safety.
