POSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Nov 16, 2010
The all-conference teams in volleyball and men's and women's cross country will be announced on today's PacWest Magazine, The Radio Show.
The program can be heard live online starting at 10 a.m. at pacificwestsports.tv.
» Chaminade's 7-foot center Mamadou Diarra from Mali is the featured athlete on tonight's PacWest Magazine, The Television Show, at 8 on OC 16.
Also featured is the Brigham Young-Hawaii women's soccer team, which earned its first postseason berth. The Seasiders were eliminated Saturday by UC San Diego 1-0.
Brigham Young-Hawaii makes its second NCAA D-II National Championship Tournament appearance in three years at San Bernardino, Calif.
BYUH (16-7), seeded eighth, faces regional top seed and national No. 6 Cal State San Bernardino (25-2) in the last of Thursday's first-round matches (5:30 p.m.). Two years ago, the Coyotes eliminated the Seasiders in the West Regional opening round 3-0.
BYUH has won 10 national titles, eight in the NAIA and two in the NCAA. The Coyotes were 21-1 when winning the California Collegiate Athletic Association for the fourth straight year.
Thursday's winners advance to Friday's semifinals. Saturday's champion advances to the NCAA Elite 8, Dec. 2-4, in Louisville.
Hawaii Pacific's Kyra Pelayo had the program's single-season dig record going into Saturday's season-ending match against Hawaii-Hilo with 556, five more than senior teammate Tricia Yoshimura had in 2008.
Make that margin 47. Pelayo had 42 digs in the Sea Warriors' upset of Hawaii-Hilo on Saturday to finish the year at 598.
BYU-Hawaii junior outside hitter Losaline Faka'osi earned the conference's final player of the week honor for the season.
Faka'osi led the Seasiders to a share of the PacWest title and -- by virtue of the tiebreaker over Hawaii-Hilo -- an automatic berth in the NCAA D-II National Championship Tournament that starts Thursday.
In wins over Chaminade and Hawaii-Hilo, she had 27 kills, two aces, one solo block and five block assists.
She also had 45 digs in the seven sets.
» Kelly Balanay, HPU: The senior hitter had 14 kills and eight blocks in the 3-1 win over Hawaii-Hilo, her final match for the Sea Warriors.
» Tara Huckvale, BYUH: The junior middle had 13 kills, 12 blocks and two aces as the Seasiders won twice en route to the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA D-II tournament.
» Hillary Hurley, UHH: The junior had 49 kills, an ace and seven blocks as the Vulcans finished 1-2 on the road last week, defeating Chaminade 3-0 but losing 3-1 at BYU-Hawaii and at HPU.
