Warriors volleyball will go to Maui

The Hawaii men's volleyball team will play its Feb. 12 match against Cal Baptist on Maui.

The match at War Memorial Gym in Wailuku is scheduled for 5 p.m. The teams will meet the previous night at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Tickets are available at the Stan Sheriff Center box office, online at HawaiiAthletics.com or by phone at 944-2697.

Chaminade snaps conference drought

Freshman Jordan Ahakuelo scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds and sophomore Rachael Rickard added 15 points as Chaminade won a PacWest women's basketball game for the first time since 2007 last night.

Sophomore Jamie Higa finished with 13 points for the Silverswords in their 63-51 win over Dominican at McCabe Gym. Chaminade (1-9, 1-2 PacWest) had not won a conference game since defeating Hawaii-Hilo in 2007, a skid of 48 straight.

Shelly Clermenco led the Penguins (2-10, 0-2) with 13 points.

BYUH rally falls short

Richelle Rieben scored 29 points, hitting a school-record seven 3-pointers, but it was not enough as Brigham Young-Hawaii lost to Academy of Art 73-70 last night at Cannon Activities Center.

The Seasiders (1-9, 0-2) trailed by as many as 11 early in the second half, but a basket by Rieben off a steal gave BYUH a 70-69 lead with 46 seconds remaining. The Urban Knights (4-8, 2-1) answered with four free throws by Nicole DeRosier to pull it out.

The Seasiders got a school-record 11 assists from Dara Tompkison.

HPU knocks off NDNU

Mana Hopkins-Vandernakker scored 18 points as Hawaii Pacific handed Notre Dame de Namur its first conference loss last night at Blaisdell Arena, 74-66.

Courtney Buster added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Sea Warriors (7-3, 1-0) against the Argos (6-7, 3-1).

Chang leads Seasiders' rout

Jet Chang scored 26 points to lead Brigham Young-Hawaii to a 79-62 win in PacWest men's basketball last night in Laie.

Jake Dastrop add 17 points for the Seasiders (7-4, 2-0) against the Urban Knights (3-10, 0-4).

HPU loses conference opener

Royal Edwards scored 14 points, but Hawaii Pacific couldn't match the outside shooting by Notre Dame de Namur in losing to the Argos 61-59 last night at Blaisdell Arena.

NDNU (3-11, 1-3) hit 11 3-pointers in holding off the Sea Warriors (5-8, 0-1). HPU was 2-for-7 from behind the arc.

Chaminade holds off Dominican

Dominique Cooks scored 12 points and Chaminade won a slow-down contest with Dominican 48-43 last night at McCabe Gym. Mamadou Diarra added 12 rebounds for the Silverswords (11-5, 3-0) against the Penguins (0-12, 0-2).
