Former Wahine makes national team

Former University of Hawaii All-American Molly O'Bryan Vandemoer was named to the U.S. national sailing team yesterday, U.S. Sailing and the Olympic Sailing Committee announced.

Vandemoer, who lives in Stanford, Calif., sailed for UH from 1998 to 2002 and was an ICSA All-American her final two years. The Rainbow Wahine won the national championship in 2001 and were second in 2002.

Hawaii-Hilo blanks Grand Canyon

Kekoa Lee struck out six batters and scattered four hits over seven innings to lead Hawaii-Hilo over Grand Canyon yesterday at Hilo.

The Vulcans (4-2, 1-0 PacWest) scored one run in the fifth and another in the seventh and Lee, a senior left-hander from Waipahu, held the Antelopes scoreless to earn his second win of the season. Junior Bryan Raines pitched two innings to pick up the save.

Hawaii Pacific edges Dixie State

Jazzmin Awa-Williams scored 12 points and Skye Savini added 10 as Hawaii Pacific held off Dixie State 53-50 last night at Blaisdell Arena.

Senior center Courtney Buster added nine points and nine rebounds for the Lady Sea Warriors, who improved to 18-6 (12-3 PacWest). Breann Hill scored a game-high 22 points for the Red Storm (22-3, 12-2).

HPU closes the regular season against Grand Canyon on Saturday at McCabe Gym.
