» Kansas senior left-hander Wally Marciel ('Iolani '06) went seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits, five walks and striking out five to earn the win in a 2-1 victory over Southern Utah in the first game of a doubleheader yesterday. Mitchell Kauweloa (Kamehameha '08) singled and stole a base in the first game and D.J. Andrade (Damien '09) had a hit in the second game for the Thunderbirds. Kaiana Eldredge (Punahou '10) doubled and drove in a run for the Jayhawks.

» San Diego State sophomore left-hander Matthew McDaniel (Mid-Pacific '09) allowed an unearned run without a hit in an inning of work against San Diego on Friday. McDaniel has pitched 4 2/3 innings in two appearances for the Aztecs, surrendering three hits and an earned run. Toreros catcher Zack Kometani (Punahou '08) went 2-for-8 with five RBIs and Kalei Hanawahine (Kamehameha '09) doubled and scored a run to help USD win both games.

» Northwestern junior Paul Snieder (Punahou '08) was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in a 7-5 loss to Georgetown on Friday and finished the weekend with four hits as the Wildcats went 1-2.

» Cal State Northridge senior Ridge Carpenter (Kalani '07) finished 4-for-17 with a double, three runs scored and two stolen bases for the Matadors, who took three of four games over Valparaiso over the weekend.

» Portland sophomore right-hander J.R. Bunda ('Iolani '09) allowed one hit, one walk and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to close out a 7-2 victory over George Fox on Sunday.

» Claremont-Mudd-Scripps freshman Brett Watanabe ('Iolani '10) finished 6-for-17 with a triple, four runs and two RBIs as the Stags went 1-3 over the weekend.

» Cal State East Bay sophomore Zachary Wong (Kaiser '09) pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out two in a 5-1 win over CS Stanislaus on Sunday. Wong hasn't allowed an earned run in 6 1/3 innings this season.

» Pacific (Ore.) sophomore Rob Dittrick (Mid-Pacific '09) recorded a complete-game victory over Lewis & Clark on Saturday, allowing two runs on 12 hits with one walk and nine strikeouts in a 5-2 win. Designated hitter Mike Nagamine (Mid-Pacific '08) went 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base to lead the Boxers to a 12-10 win in the series finale on Sunday.

» Willamette (Ore.) junior third baseman Tim Schilf ('Iolani '08) hit a pinch-hit double and scored a run in a 17-2 win over Occidental (Calif.) on Sunday.

Women's basketball

» Concordia (Calif.) senior Nicole Fu (Maryknoll '07) hit a pull-up jumper from the free-throw line with 1.3 seconds remaining to give the Eagles a 66-64 win over Westmont in their final regular season game. Fu scored 17 points and dished out seven assists to help the Eagles finish with 10 wins in league play for the first time in five years. Fu earned first-team All-Golden State Athletic Conference honors for the second year in a row and will finish sixth on the school's all-time scoring list. She has 1,440 points heading into tournament play.

» UNLV junior forward Jamie Smith ('Iolani '08) finished eight points on 3-for-7 shooting, 11 rebounds and two blocks in a 77-56 loss to Wyoming on Saturday.

Men's golf

» San Diego junior Alex Ching (Punahou '08) shot a final-round 1-under 70 to finish in a tie for 40th place at 8-over 221 in the USC Collegiate Invitational that concluded yesterday.

Women's golf

» UCLA junior Stephanie Kono (Punahou '08) fired a second-round 1-under 71 and is tied for the lead at 3-under after two rounds of the Bruin Wave Invitational that finishes today. Cal State Northridge senior Ashlee Nagamine (La Pietra '07) is tied for 77th place with a 167 and Oregon State junior Elyse Okada (Maui '08) is in 83rd place with a 177.

» Furman (S.C.) senior Jackie Hilea (Moanalua '07) shot a final-round 3-over 76 to finish in a tie for 45th place at 237 in the Kinderlou Forest Challenge that ended yesterday.

Softball

» New Mexico State senior Hoku Nohara (Kamehameha '07) hit four doubles, three home runs and drove in 11 runs in five games, helping the Aggies finish 4-1 in the UTEP Invitational that finished on Saturday. Nohara scored four runs and has eight homers this season, tying her for the Western Athletic Conference lead. Sophomore Tehani Ka'aihue (Kapolei '09) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs as the Aggies finished the tournament with a 14-4 win over North Dakota on Saturday.

» Mississippi State junior Kaili Smith (Kapolei '08) finished 8-for-15 with a home run, four runs and two RBIs as the Bulldogs finished 1-4 in the Phyllis Rafter Memorial tournament over the weekend.

» Eastern Kentucky senior Shyenne Hussey (Kailua '06) finished 5-for-12 with two RBIs to help the Colonels finish 3-1 in the Magic City Classic over the weekend. Senior Noelani Esperas (Kamehameha '07) pitched in three games, getting the win in a 9-3 victory over Indiana State on Friday. She gave up six hits and no earned runs in 5 2/3 innings with two walks and eight strikeouts.

» East Carolina freshman Kristi Oshiro (Mililani '10) finished 6-for-12 with two doubles, five runs scored, four stolen bases and two RBIs to help the Pirates finish 4-0 in the Pirate Clash over the weekend. Freshman catcher Rebecca Lee (Mililani '10) went 2-for-8 with two runs and three RBIs and Kai Clark (Kapolei '09) was 1-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in the tournament.

» Menlo (Calif.) junior Amanda Vegas (Kailua '08) had two doubles and scored twice and Ululani Reyes (St. Francis '09) drove in three runs in a doubleheader split against Dominican University on Saturday. Sophomore Nadia Lei (Kamehameha '09) went 2-for-6 with a run and an RBI for the Oaks.

» Western Oregon senior Tierra-Lyn Cuba (Mililani '07) finished 2-for-7 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base to help the Wolves split a four-game series against Montana State-Billings over the weekend.

Women's swimming & diving

» UCLA senior Brittany Beauchan (Punahou '07) finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.04 at the Pac-10 championships that concluded on Saturday. Beauchan also finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke. USC sophomore Christel Simms (Punahou '09) swam the anchor leg for the 200 medley relay team that finished second.

» Boise State sophomore Jennifer Cahill (Baldwin '09) set a school record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:51.96 to place third at the Western Athletic Conference championships that finished on Saturday. She also set a school-record time of 16:51.62 to place third in the 1650 free and swam a leg for the 800 free relay team that placed first.

» Marist (N.Y.) sophomore Chelaine Eliazar (Punahou '09) finished second in 1-meter diving with a score of 223.10 and third in 3-meter diving with a 213.10 at the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships that wrapped up on Sunday.

Women's tennis

» DePauw (Ill.) senior Janelle Arita (Punahou '07) went 3-0 in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as the Tigers finished the opening weekend of the spring season 2-1.

» George Fox (Ore.) freshman Shaina Inn (Hawaii Baptist '10) won her No. 3 singles match in straight sets to help the Bruins defeat Pacific Lutheran 5-4 on Friday.

Men's track & field

» Pacific (Ore.) senior Murphy Busek (Waiakea '07) was named the Northwest Conference student-athlete of the week yesterday. Busek won two of the three events he competed in at the Frank Haskins meet over the weekend. He won the hammer throw in 144 feet, 3 inches and won the shot put with a mark of 43-4 1/4 . He finished fourth in the discus with a heave of 126-10.

Women's track & field

» Pacific (Ore.) junior Jenna Matsumoto (University '09) was named the Boxers' track student-athlete of the week yesterday after winning the 100-meter hurdles at the Frank Haskins meet over the weekend. Matsumoto finished in 17.31 seconds and placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.90. Both times qualified her for the conference meet.

Men's volleyball

» Stanford junior Brad Lawson ('Iolani '08) was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week on Monday. Lawson combined for 43 kills, hitting .480, with 14 digs and three aces in wins over UCLA and UC Santa Barbara over the weekend.

» Southern California outside hitter Tri Bourne (Academy of the Pacific '07) was one of four Trojans in double figures with 13 kills, 12 digs, three block assists and two aces in a five-set victory over Long Beach State on Friday. Riley McKibbin (Punahou '07) had 60 assists, nine digs and three kills and Henry Cassiday (Punahou '10) had a team-high 18 digs for the Trojans, while Taylor Crabb (Punahou '10) had 16 kills, nine digs and two block assists for the 49ers.

» Brigham Young sophomore middle blocker Futi Tavana (Kauai '05) combined for 20 kills and a .515 hitting percentage in two wins over UC San Diego over the weekend. Tavana had a solo block and seven block assists in a five-set win on Friday and had four aces in a three-game sweep on Saturday.

» Cal State Northridge senior libero Kaleo Baxter (Kauai '05) had a team-high seven digs and two aces in a three-set loss to Pepperdine on Friday.

» Emerson (Mass.) sophomore Justin Chun (Punahou '09) had 10 digs and two aces off the bench in a five-set victory over Elms College on Sunday.

Women's water polo

» UC San Diego senior Hanalei Crowell (Kamehameha '07) scored three goals in a 13-10 win over Cal State Bakersfield to help the Tritons finish in 15th place at the UC Irvine Invitational. Crowell scored seven goals in four tournament games.

» California Lutheran junior Jane Galuzzi (Punahou '08) scored twice in a 10-6 victory over Grove City on Saturday and had a goal, three steals and two assists in a 10-8 loss to Concordia (Calif.) on Sunday as the Regals finished 1-3 in the Chapman Tournament.
