Vercruyssen, Ceroli win

Hawaii Academy gymnasts Nani Vercruyssen and Zachary Ceroli won titles in their respective divisions at last week's Japan Double Mini-Trampoline National Championships in Tokyo.

Vercruyssen, 19, was first in her age division and first overall in the women's competition. Ceroli, 17, won the men's competition.

Smart cycling class offered

Traffic Skills 101, a three-day class designed to make cycling more enjoyable and safer, begins next Friday at Island Triathlon & Bike.

The educational course is taught by Frank Smith, a League Cycling Instructor, and offers 5 hours in the classroom and another 5 1/2 hours of on-road instruction.

Sessions are March 18, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.; and March 20 and 27, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The cost is $78.53 and includes a workbook. Island Triathlon & Bike is at 569 Kapahulu Ave.

Motocross benefit Sunday

Hawaii Motorsports Association is hosting a benefit time trial race Sunday at the Kahuku Motocross Track.

The track opens at 6 a.m., with racing to start around 9 a.m. The entry fee is $20 for the first division, $10 for each additional division.

Money raised will help defray expenses for seven riders at next month's World Mini Grand Prix in Nevada. Qualifying for the competition are Rainey Layos, Donovan Canionero, Koa Vares, Keoki Silva-Vares, Dalton Pahia, Romy Pascua and Alex Feyerisen.

Marathon clinics to start

The Honolulu Marathon Clinic begins its readiness training for the Dec. 11 Honolulu Marathon on Sunday at Kapiolani Park.

The weekly clinics begin at 7:30 a.m. across from Paki Hale and are open to runners of all levels, especially those training for their first marathon. The clinics are free and run through Dec. 4, except on Sundays of a three-day weekend.
