Friesen fourth at zone championships

Hawaii diver Emma Friesen scored 592.80 points to finish fourth in the 1-meter dive at the NCAA Zone E Championships at the Minnesota Aquatics Center in Minneapolis, Minn., yesterday.

Friesen was just 1.7 points behind third-place finisher Elina Eggers of Arizona State. Victoria Ishimatsu of USC won the event with 643.30 points, with Margaret Hostage of Stanford taking second with 613.20 points.

Daniella Nero finished seventh for Hawaii with 529.90 points.

Junior Thomas Rugg represented the UH men's team with a 14th-place finish in the preliminary round of the 3-meter dive.

UCLA rolls Hawaii in tennis

No. 8-ranked UCLA took five of six singles matches and won the doubles point with a three-match sweep to beat Hawaii 6-1 in men's tennis yesterday in Los Angeles.

Leo Rosenberg, playing No. 2 singles, salvaged a point for the Warriors with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Clay Thompson.

Hawaii (2-8) hosts Air Force at 10 a.m. Tuesday and Cal Poly at 1 p.m. next Saturday.staff

BYU-Hawaii splits with Cameron

Brigham Young-Hawaii's second-ranked women's tennis team swept No. 18 Cameron 9-0 yesterday at Pensacola, Fla., to improve to 12-0 on the season.

No. 1 singles Yuan Jia beat Amanda Moberg 6-0, 6-1 and teamed with Elwen Li to win No. 1 doubles 8-4 over Moberg and Julia PuckHaber.

In the men's match, No. 20 Cameron won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles for a 5-4 victory over the No. 30-ranked Seasiders.staff

Hilo's Pedroza thumps BYUH

Christina Pedroza went 2-for-4 with an RBI and threw seven shutout innings as the UH-Hilo softball team beat Brigham Young-Hawaii 6-0 yesterday in Laie.

Pedroza limited the Seasiders to four hits and walked only one batter to help the Vulcans improve to 4-4, 2-1 in the PacWest. BYUH dropped to 4-11 and 2-3.staff
