Lewis, Miyazato tied at top; Wie opens with a 78

By Associated Press

POSTED:

Stacy Lewis and Mika Miyazato are tied for the lead after the opening round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway Township, N.J.

Lewis and Miyazato each shot a 6-under 65 on Friday at the Bay Course at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club.

Paula Creamer and Mariajo Uribe are tied for third at 4 under. Maude-Aimee Leblanc is at 3 under, while seven players are another shot back, including Lexi Thompson and Christina Kim.

Yani Tseng shot an even-par 71, while defending champion Brittany Lincicome finished with a 72.

The morning half of the field had the better of the weather, as skies darkened and the winds picked up around mid-day, making things difficult.

Michelle Wie, who teed off at 11:50 a.m. local time, had two double-bogeys and five bogeys on her way to a 7-over 78 that left her tied for 126th place.

I get the feeling that Wie's days in the LPGA are numbered. Maybe planning to put that degree from Stanford to good use.

What's the problem with our local gals, especially Wie? She is already 11 over par on a 6100 yard course. She should stop making those silly commercials and get on the range. Her golf game is non-existent and not getting better. The two rookies need to realize what is going on and take corrective action - putt better or hit better irons. Something is missing but I wish them well. Season still young but need to get going!

Looks like she will miss the cut again at 12 over right now. This is her 4th miss in the row.

Wiesy should get back with Casey Nakama to fix what Leadbetter broke. Otherwise, Aloha means goodbye endorsements.
