WATERLOO, Canada » Sandra Changkija birdied six of her final eight holes for a career-best 8-under 63 and a three-stroke lead during the suspended first round of the inaugural Manulife Financial LPGA Classic.

Play was suspended because of the threat of lightning in the area, and then called off for the rest of the day about 2 hours later. Seventy-two players were unable to finish the round.

Honolulu's Michelle Wie, trying to break out of a season-long slump, had a 70, breaking par for only the second time in 19 rounds this year.

Hawaii's Stephanie Kono finished at 3-over 74. Ayaka Kaneko was 2 over through nine holes when play was halted for the day.

Changkija, making her eighth start in her rookie season, parred her first six holes after beginning play on No. 10, then birdied Nos. 16 and 18. With the wind picking up on the Grey Silo course, she birdied No. 2 and Nos. 4-8 for a front-nine 30.

China's Shanshan Feng, coming off a major victory two weeks ago in the LPGA Championship, shot a 66.

Sweden's Anna Nordqvist also was 5 under with five holes left.

Mathis leads Travelers

David Mathis had a hole-in-one and shot a 6-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn.

The 38-year-old Mathis, who missed the cut last week in the U.S. Open, began play on the back nine, making a birdie on 10 before holing out from 158 yards shot on the par-3 11th hole. He was 6 under after six holes.

Nathan Green, Will Claxton and defending champion Fredrik Jacobson shot 65.

U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson and Masters winner Bubba Watson played together and finished in a group of 10 at 66.

2 share lead in Germany

Australia's Marcus Fraser and Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti shot 8-under 64 to share the first-round lead at the BMW International Open in Pulheim, Germany.
