Hartong nets third Big West weekly award

Emily Hartong won her third Big West Conference women’s volleyball player of the week award after posting career highs in kills and digs to lead Hawaii to hard-fought victories last week.

The junior outside hitter buried a career-high 33 kills to lead the Wahine over Long Beach State in a four-set win on Friday, hitting .329 with 15 digs.

On Saturday, Hartong slammed 29 kills — including five in the decisive fifth set — and added a career-best 16 digs as Hawaii rallied to defeat the Anteaters in five sets.

Hartong and the Wahine, who remained at No. 9 in this week’s AVCA Coaches poll, return to action with home matches against UC Santa Barbara on Thursday and Cal Poly on Saturday.
