Hawaii surfer Moore wins US Open of Surfing
Carissa Moore (HAW), 20, has won the Vans US Open of Surfing over local favorite Courtney Conlogue (USA), 20, by a score of 16.00 to 11.60. The win vaults the Hawaiian to No. 1 on the ASP Womenâ??s WCT over then leader Tyler Wright (AUS), 19. The Vans US Open of Surfing is the sixth of eight stops on the ASP Womenâ??s World Championship Tour (WCT) offering crucial points towards both surfersâ?? ASP World Title campaigns and requalification for the 2014 ASP WCT.
Carissa Moore (Oahu, Hawaii) (pictured) won her quarterfinal heat and advanced into the semifinals at The Vans US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California, USA today. Moore will compete against Pauline Ado (FRA) in semifinal heat #2 on the next day of competition. The Vans US Open of Surfing is Stop No. 6 of 8 on the Women's World Championship Tour and the 4th of 8 ASP PRIME events on the menâ??s calendar.

Hawaii surfer Carissa Moore has won the Vans US Open of Surfing over local favorite Courtney Conlogue in one-to-three foot waves at Huntington Beach Pier Sunday. With the win, Moore is now on top of Association of Surfing Professionals Women’s World Title competition with two events left in the season.
Its Moore’s third tournament win of the season as she tries to reclaim the world championship title.
“To be honest I’m a little shocked right now because I thought Courtney (Conlogue) won when the crowd erupted on that last wave,” Moore, 20, said in a news release from the ASP. “I let her go and I had priority and it was a bad decision, but I’m stoked that it worked out in my favor. I was happy to be in the final and Courtney’s in the title race and I had fun, but I was definitely nervous at the end of that heat. It’s such an honor to win this event in front of this big crowd. I feel amazing!”
Conlogue , 20, knocked out Australia’s Tyler Wright, 19, in the semifinals. Wright had been number one in the standings until today.
“It was definitely an amazing heat and Carissa (Moore), she’s been surfing really well,” Conlogue said. “With everyone screaming and the crowd on the pier I was definitely wanting to win. I was trying to be progressive and surfing the best that I could.”
Conlogue is now at No 3 on the ASP Women’s WCT standings.
