Hawaii sweeps UC San Diego in volleyball

Sophomore hitter Siki Zarkovic put down put down a team-high 11 kills and junior middle Taylor Averill added 10 with no hitting errors as No. 10 Hawaii used a balanced, efficient attack to sweep UC San Diego 25-14, 25-16,  25-22  in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball match tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Junior middle Davis Holt was in on eight blocks, including a career-high three solo, for the Warriors (5-2, 3-1 MPSF) in the 93-minute match. Hawaii will take a three-match winning streak on its first road trip of the season, with the first of four away matches at No. 8 UC Santa Barbara Thursday.

The Tritons (0-7, 0-6) got 12 kills from senior hitter Nick Iorfino in being swept for the sixth time in seven matches. 

Hawaii outblocked UCSD 11.5-2, with senior setter Joby Ramos and Zarkovic in on three. Freshman hitter Hendrik Mol added two of the team’ seven aces, both coming towards the end of Set 1. 

The Rainbow Warriors hit .478, with Zarkovic having four of the team’s eight hitting errors.
