Hawaii Warrior's Joby Ramos, left, and Taylor Averill celebrate after making a point against the Pacific Tigers at the Stan Sheriff Center in Manoa.

Sophomore hitter Brook Sedore and freshman hitter Siki Zarkovic each put down 16 kills as No. 12 Hawaii kept its slim playoff hopes alive Friday night when turning back unranked Pacific 25-22, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball match at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Sophomore middle Taylor Averill added 11 kills with no errors in 14 swings and sophomore opposite JP Marks had 14 digs for the Warriors (8-14, 7-12 MPSF).

Hawaii ran its record to 41-1 against Pacific and 22-0 in Honolulu.

For the last-place Tigers (6-14, 3-13) Taylor Hughes had a match-high 19 kills and Adam Troy 16.

The Tigers out-blocked the Warriors 13.5-3.5 with Christian Ahlin in on six and Hughes five. Hawaii had no blocks in the final two sets.

Pacific avoided the sweep when rallying in Set 3. The Tigers trailed 12-7 but outscored Hawaii 17-7 to force Set 4.

The Warriors trailed for most of Set 4 before taking their first lead at 15-14. A block of Zarkovic put the Tigers back on top briefly at 22-21 but kills by Zarkovic, Marks and Jace Olsen gave Hawaii match point at 24-22.

Mathhew Houlihan’s fifth kill held off one match point only to have Peter Edwards’ service error end it after 2 hours and 21 minutes.

The teams meet again Saturday at 7 p.m.
