LAS VEGAS >> The man leading a stadium-building effort at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has been named the school’s acting president.

The Nevada Board of Regents voted Friday to appoint Don Snyder to the post. He will start the job Feb. 3, as former president Neal Smatresk assumes the top job at the University of North Texas.

State Chancellor Dan Klaich had recommended the retired Boyd Gaming Corp. president and academic officer for the post.

The acting president will likely serve for a short period of time until a permanent replacement is chosen. Acting presidents are not eligible for the permanent post.
