The Hawaii women’s basketball team came up short, 54-51, against Grand Canyon in Phoenix today.

UH (6-6) got a distant heave from Shawna Kuehu at the buzzer aiming for the tie, but her shot ricocheted off the backboard.

The Wahine took the lead for the first time midway through the second half but the Antelopes (10-2), in their first season of Division I up from the PacWest Conference, rallied back.

Senior forward Kamilah Jackson led UH with 14 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in the loss.

Laura Beeman’s team does not play again until Big West Conference action begins against Cal Poly on Jan. 8.
